Julia Pamela Allen

Julia Allen was born in Christchurch and was educated at Burnside Primary School and Burnside High School. She continued her studies at the University of Canterbury and graduated with a BA in English in 1978 and an M.A. in 1981. Julia has tutored part-time at the University of Canterbury, taught creative writing at Christchurch Polytech and was a part-time tutor in drama at the Christchurch Drama Centre. She had an active involvement with the Free Theatre in Christchurch from 1982-84 and has acted in a number of short films. In 1991 she attended the College of Education in Christchurch, and taught English at Rangiora High School in 1992. She taught English at Christchurch Boys High School In early 2007 she went to Oman to live. Julia writes poetry and short stories and has published two collections of poetry. Her poems have also appeared in various publications including Morepork, Landfall, Poetry Australia, and Untold. She has tutored in the Creative Writing paper at the University of Canterbury. Julia has represented Canterbury in hockey.
