Uri-Kore was the outstanding composer of Ngāti Porou of his time, and he composed haka (Posture dances), and songs. He belonged to the sub-tribes who live at the base of Hiku-rangi mountain, namely: Ngāti-Kapohanga-a-rangi, Te Ao-wera, Te Aitanga-a-Mate, Ngāti-Ira-a-Kuratau.
