Anya Ngawhare is from Taranaki. She stated in her profile for the 2012 Te Papa Tupu Writers page that "Writing makes me happy, more than music even, and I like to share my stories so that I can pass some of that happiness on. A great writer can make a person damn near explode with emotion, and if I can do that to just one person I’d feel like I succeeded. I’d feel like the hard work was worth it."
Anya Ngawhare's novel extract "Average Kids and Bigots" was a finalist in 2015 Pikihuia Awards under the Best Novel Extract category and was published in Huia Short Stories 11.
