Paul Gilbert is Ngai Tahu and pakeha, Wellington born and raised. He holds an Honours Degree in Political Science from Victoria University, with further majors in Anthropology and English Literature, and a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching. He was the inaugural secretary for the Hamilton branch of the NZSA. He moved to the Waikato after four years in Australia, and now resides on the Kapiti coast.
Gilbert's work Rise and Shine was a finalist in the 2007 Pikihuia Awards under the Best novel extract written in English category. His debut novel - a fantasy/modern folk tale, The Sovereign Hand - has been published by Steam Press is available everywhere from August 21, 2014.
