Pine Dewes writes: ‘I was born at Waipiro Bay and raised near Ruatoria on the East Coast. My mother was Rangi Te Kura Tamahori and may father Sam Dewes, both Ngāti Porou tuturu. I attended Victoria University 1969-71 and was a founding member of Te Reo Māori Society. We wanted to create a forum for te re Māori students, where we could speak and listen to Māori in a more informal environment. I married Heni Walker in 1977 (one of my better accomplishments) and we have three sons and a daughter. I love reading, photography, writing and anything that enhances the quality of life. I am currently working on The Adventures of Hikurangi and Aorangi which should be completed before the end of the year.’
