Becky Manawatu grew up in Waimangaroa, attended Buller High School and later lived in Gernany and Italy for ten years. She now lives on the West Coast and has worked as a Westport News journalist. Her novel Auē (2019) won the Jann Medlicott Prize for Fiction, the Hubert Church Prize for Best First Book in the New Zealand Ockham Book Awards in 2020, and the Best Novel at the Ngaio Marsh 2020 Awards.
