'He is an independent Māori scholar whose work explores the continuum of setter colonial violence in the Aotearoa New Zealand, United States, and Hawaiian contexts. In this, he is interested in Indigenous relationships to land and environment, the basis of his 2021-2022 Fulbright research with Harvard University and the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. He is also Director of Mana Pounamu Consulting, a kaupapa Māori ad kaupapa Pasifika research and evaluation company.'
