He "grew up in Whakatane.... He is self-employed and has published magazines and a newspaper. He started writing seriously two years ago and is currently working on a novel about male sexual abuse. He has two children, and his leisure activities include karate, music, dining out and nightclubbing. He says he is pleased to see an avenue for Māori writers finally established."
