Gildea writes: ‘I am a graduate of the Whitireia writing course but have been writing and telling stories and poems since I was a child. Writing is really like breathing. It is the place I begin from and return to. I have led a fairly transient life so far but, like my writing, I have continually yearned for, grappled with, and returned to my home."
