  • In Māori and English translation and notes by Reweti Kohere. Kohere’s great interest in this waiata lies in the fact that it supports the Ngāti Porou belief that the Ngāti Porou chief Kakatarau "organised and led the Toka-a-kuku expedition". Kohere writes that this was the last conflict between Ngāti Porou and Whanau-a-Apanui in 1836.
