  • The notes accompanying this text and translation state that this is a South Island story which combines a number of very old myths. It was written in December 1892. The Māori text was given to the University of Canterbury’s Māori Department by Riki Te Mairangi Taiaroa Ellison. The story is about the sailing of the canoe Waka-a-rangi to Te One-o-Rangiaohia.
