She lectures in the Education Departmnet at the University of Auckland and her main areas of interest are education policy and administration, school governance and management, Māori education initiatives, the politucs of difference, and mana wāhine.

  • Johnston provides an overview of Te Kohanga Reo in its 14th year of existence. She discusses Kohanga Reo being built on a notion of difference and the impact of State ‘legitimation’ on Kohanga Reo. This paper was presented to the NZARE Conference at Waikato University in December 1993.
