Henrietta Kaiwai attended Ngata Memorial College, Ruatoria. She is grand-daughter of A. T. Ngata.

- This article was one of the prize-winning entries in the Ngata Memorial College essay competition for essays on a local historical or legendary theme. Kaiwai describes the construction of the Porourangi Meeting House which was built between 1852 and 1864 at the foot of Puputa Hill. She notes the carving by Tamati Ngakaho, the distinctive tukutuku patterns and the various ancestors represented in the meeting house.
