  • The editors write that this publication is ‘an outgrowth of the renewed international interest in exploring alternative forms of energy’. The publication focuses on the dual problems of developing small hydroelectric energy sources in rural areas and of managing small hydroelectric power development projects. Some of the cases report on multiple uses of small hydro systems other than power, such as water supply, flood control, and irrigation of crops. They also analyse and discuss key policy and research issues of small hydro energy development.
