- "Health Trends in the Māori today." Te Ao Hou 30 (1960): 57-59.
- This is a section of the paper Dr Maaka presented to the Young Māori Leaders Conference in 1959. His subject is Māori health in the Whakatane district and he begins by giving an overview of the Whakatane area looking at Māori/Pakeha population figures, the reasons for improvement in health over the last twenty years and the changing attitudes amongst Māori to modern medical treatment. Maaka discusses common ailments suffered in the different age groups and he also touches on juvenile delinquency, attitudes toward antenatal and postnatal care and chronic invalidism.
