Mihi Keita Ngata

Mihi Ngata was born at Waipiro Bay, and attended Mata School, Huiarua Station, East Coast, and Queen Victoria School in Parnell, Auckland. Mihi attended Auckland Teachers’ Training College in Epsom Auckland and obtained her Teachers’ College Diploma in 1968. At Gisborne Tairawhiti Polytech, Mihi received her Bi-lingual Education Certificate. She was one of five top finalists in 1997 for the Huia Short Story Awards and was a finalist in the Te Puni Kokiri Award. Mihi writes short stories for children in Māori. She is a primary school teacher and a Resource Teacher of Māori. She is based in Gisborne and delivers post-teacher training to Kura Kaupapa Māori and Rumaki Units.
