"Papahia was a chief of Te Rarawa, who lived at Orongotea, Hokianga. He was a contemporary of Hongi Hika and others and took part in the war expeditions of Te Rarawa and Nga Puhi. He lived until after the date of the Treaty of Waitangi, of which he was a signatory. He composed this lament for his elder brother, Te Huhu".
